The Territory Labor Government is undertaking a planning study for safety upgrades to the Roger Vale Drive and Stuart Highway intersection, south of Alice Springs.
Currently the existing intersection is a high speed un-signalised intersection where motorists on the major road (Stuart Highway) have to yield to the minor road (Roger Vale Drive) traffic.
During major events and peak times, drivers experience delays in long queues, resulting in higher risk driver behaviours.
The proposed upgrade will realign this intersection to improve traffic flow, improve safety and support planned future development and land use plans for Alice Springs south.
This busy stretch of the Stuart Highway provides access into the Alice Springs Airport, the nearby motorsports complex, the Welcome to Alice Springs signage and communities including Santa Teresa and Titjikala.
SMEC Australia has been undertaking the design work and residents and stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft concept for the intersection upgrade which will assist in informing the final design.
Consultation opens today, Friday 7 June 2024 and closes Friday 5 July 2024.
