The much-anticipated construction of pump tracks at Tangambalanga and Wahgunyah are a step closer with Council tonight awarding a contract for the works to commence to Common Ground Trails.
Council received Victorian Government grant funding towards the two projects, which it has matched dollar for dollar, with an investment of $300,000.
Mayor Sophie Price says construction of the pump tracks will provide additional recreational opportunities for children and young people in these towns and within the surrounding areas.
“We are really pleased that this contract has been awarded and that these two projects can finally be realised. Both Kiewa-Tangambalanga and Wahgunyah are growing, attracting new families to the area and we want to ensure that there are activities for young people that improve their health and well-being as well as being fun.”
Both projects were initially identified by the community, with the Tangambalanga track, a key recommendation of the Tangambalanga Active Park Master Plan. Wahgunyah’s new pump track will be built at the Railway Land site.
Council will invest an additional $60,000 towards the installation of small shade structures at the ‘muster/start area’ of the tracks as well as install larger shade sails at both sites.
Cr Price says there will be an opportunity for community input during the design phase of the project and this is expected to get underway soon.
