The first of a 120-strong convoy of motorhomes will leave Sydney this morning bound for Northern NSW to provide medium term accommodation in flood-affected communities.
Minister for Families and Communities Natasha Maclaren-Jones said the NSW Government is providing a range of accommodation for people affected by the floods to help ensure no one is left homeless.
“The recent extreme weather has devastated these communities and we are doing everything we can to make sure people have a safe place to stay that is close to their community and support networks,” Mrs Maclaren-Jones said.
“These motorhomes will be offered to priority areas in Lismore and surrounds where many people have been displaced.”
On Thursday 10 March, the Premier announced a $10 million package for the supply and maintenance of temporary accommodation provided through mobile motor homes, which will be managed by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).
The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is providing volunteer drivers to transport the motorhomes to Northern NSW.
More than 1,200 people affected by the floods have received emergency accommodation support, which has been expanded with more properties becoming available.
The NSW Government is also working to secure longer-term housing solutions for people who will not be able to return to their homes for several months or more, and for those who need to rebuild.
