- Forrest Place to be transformed for HoopsFest Fan Zone activation ahead of Australia’s largest basketball festival
- Fan Zone to offer NBL and WNBL player appearances, a pop-up basketball court, live music and family fun
- Inaugural HoopsFest to take place across sporting venues in Perth next month
- Supported by the Cook Government
A HoopsFest Fan Zone will take over Forrest Place next month with NBL and WNBL player appearances, live music, a slam dunk exhibition and a pop-up basketball court.
Proudly supported by the Cook Government, the Fan Zone activation forms part of the inaugural HoopsFest, set to be the largest basketball festival in the country as the NBL, WNBL and Australian U18 Club Championships play in Perth for the first time.
Open from 19 to 22 September at Forrest Place, the Fan Zone will host meet and greets, signings and skill sessions with high-profile NBL and WNBL talent.
The pop-up court will see several competitions, including player clinics and a Special Olympics 3×3 basketball event.
Alongside live music, DJs and food trucks, the Fan Zone is set to become a hub for all things HoopsFest.
Australia’s largest streetwear and sneakers event, Sneakerland, will return to Perth as part of HoopsFest and will take over RAC Arena across the same weekend.
Out-of-state visitors are expected to flock to WA for the basketball festival and get in on the exclusive action, with the countdown now on until HoopsFest slam dunks in Perth.
HoopsFest will be held across RAC Arena, HBF Stadium, Bendat Basketball Centre and HBF Arena, including an NBL round, WNBL round and Australian U18 Club Championships.
The event will provide a significant boost to the State’s tourism and hospitality industry, building on other blockbuster sporting events held in WA this year including the UFC, Wallabies vs Springboks and an Italian Football match.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:
“The HoopsFest Fan Zone will be a fantastic activation as part of Australia’s biggest festival of basketball, providing a central point for fans to enjoy competitions and events, plus meet and greets with NBL and WNBL players.
“We’ve seen with previous events like the FIFA Women’s World Cup and WWE that dedicated fan zones become a hub and hive of activity throughout an event, bringing people together and creating an amazing atmosphere.
“Events really have the ability to take over a city and a community, and that’s why we’re so focused on not only bringing these major events to WA, but also creating activations and supporting events around them. To us, that’s what being an events destination is about.”
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:
“With player appearances, live music, a slam dunk contest and pop-up basketball courts, the Fan Zone will be a great way for families, locals and travelling fans to get involved in all the action.
“Western Australians love their basketball, and we’re very excited to showcase this to the wider basketball community in what’s shaping up to be a huge weekend.”
As stated by Perth MLA John Carey:
“Our Government continues to drive revitalisation of our city, investing hundreds of millions of dollars to create jobs, drive economic activity and attract more people to our CBD.
“Having a dedicated and interactive fan zone right in the heart of our city is a big part of hosting these major events, in helping to activate and create a fantastic atmosphere for locals and visitors.”
