Tamworth Regional Gallery is seeking textile artists from across Australia to throw their hats in the ring for a chance to be involved in the 5th Tamworth Textile Triennial.

The Tamworth Textile Triennial showcases the best of textile art from across the country, and has previously attracted unique and diverse artists to exhibit work to wide audiences and critical review.

Curated in 2023 by Wadawurrung artist, curator and educator, Dr Carol McGregor, artists are being ask to respond to this moment in time as Tamworth Regional Gallery looks to celebrate 50 years of its National Textile Collection.

“Carol is an accomplished member of the Australian arts community, who has exhibited extensively and has work featured in both national and international collections,” said Bridget Guthrie, Director at Tamworth Regional Gallery.

“As a contributor to the 3rd Textile Triennial – Open House, she has an intimate understanding of the Tamworth Textile Triennial and its strong tradition of promoting and sustaining the unique cultural heritage associated with both the history and technology of textile practice.”

“I am excited to invite the arts community to be part of this milestone exhibition,” said Dr McGregor.

“We hope to build an exhibition that can showcase diversity in the arts, and provide a forum to explore current issues and trends in Australian textile practice. I encourage artists with varied experience and from all walks of life to apply now to be involved.”

Building on the tradition of the Tamworth Fibre Textile Collection which first began in 1973, the 5th Tamworth Textile Triennial will open in Tamworth in September, 2023 before going on National Tour. Many of the works created for the Triennial are subsequently purchased for Tamworth Regional Gallery’s permanent collection.
