Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health
Overnight, Tasmania has recorded 2050 new cases with 2,339 people recovered and released from isolation in that time.
The total number of active cases currently stands at 11,590 and we now have around 100,000 Tasmanians who have recovered from COVID-19.
There are currently 55 people in hospital with COVID and of these, 26 are being treated specifically for COVID. There are currently three people being cared for in the ICU.
Sadly, I can confirm that two Tasmanians have passed away.
A woman in her 60s passed away on April 7 at a Residential Aged Care Facility in the South, and a man in his 60s passed away on April 10 at a Residential Aged Care Facility in the North.
I extend my sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the man and woman who have sadly passed away.
Getting a booster when you are due continues to be the best defense against COVID-19, with vaccination available at 100+ pharmacies, 100+ GPs and state-run clinics.
Those people most at risk from COVID-19 are now also eligible to receive a “winter dose” or second booster. This includes those 65 years and over, residents of aged care and disability facilities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 50 and over, and people who are severely immunocompromised.
Those eligible can also get their flu shot at the same time, so I strongly recommend booking in for both doses with your GP or pharmacy at the earliest opportunity.
In addition, we continue to have one of the leading vaccination rates for children aged 5 to 11, with 64 per cent having had at least one dose and 46 per cent with two doses.
Please, remember the important COVID safe behaviours – wash your hands and sanitise, cover coughs and sneezes and importantly, stay home and do a test if you’re unwell.
