Coronavirus update 14 January 2022

There are 976 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – with 79 active cases in ICU, including 30 on a ventilator, and 33 cleared cases in ICU.

5,243,145 vaccine doses have been administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services, with 24,071 administered yesterday at state-run centres.

94.7 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 93.2 per cent have had two doses. This excludes the most recent Commonwealth data.

21.2 per cent of Victorians aged 18 and over have had three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Victoria was notified of 34,836 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. This includes:

  • 15,440 who tested positive on a Rapid Antigen Test and who to the Department
  • 19,396 who returned a positive result on a PCR test

Of those who reported a positive result on a Rapid Antigen Test yesterday:

  • Approximately 56 per cent were from tests undertaken yesterday, 13 January.
  • Approximately 20 per cent were from tests undertaken 12 January.
  • With the remainder from tests undertaken over the previous five days.

Sadly, the Department was notified yesterday of 18 deaths of people aged in their 30s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 1,657. Of today’s 18 deaths, 12 are recorded as occurring in the past four days with the majority of cases from the last two days. Six are historic cases that occurred in November and December. Deaths are reported to the Department by different sources including VICNISS, the Victorian Death Index, and Local Public Health Units.

There are 239,396 active cases in Victoria.

62,445 PCR tests were processed yesterday. The total number of PCR tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 18,263,927.

Medi-Hotels

Two medi-hotels will be established to help care for the growing number of COVID-19 patients in Victoria needing lower-level care.
