Coronavirus update for Victoria 1 December 2021

Yesterday, 4,045 vaccine doses were administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services. The total number of doses administered through state-run services is 4,851,840.

93.9 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 91.0 per cent have had two doses. This excludes the most recent Commonwealth data.

There are 299 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria – 43 active cases and 48 cleared cases are in intensive care, with 18 cases on a ventilator. Of those in hospital, 57 per cent were not fully vaccinated and of those in ICU 67 per cent were not fully vaccinated.

Victoria was notified of 1,179 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. All cases were locally acquired. The daily case numbers in Victoria have remained stable for the past four weeks and since the lifting of restrictions at 11.59pm on Thursday 18 November. The 10 Local Government areas with the highest number of new cases are Melton, Casey, Hume, Whittlesea, Brimbank, Moreland, Glen Eira, Frankston, Melbourne and Bayside.

There are 11,959 active cases in Victoria. The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 122,890.

Sadly, the Department was notified yesterday of six deaths of people aged in their 60s, 70s and 80s. This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 1,336. Following an investigation, one death previously recorded in last Sunday’s figures has been determined to be a duplicate report of an earlier death recorded on 21 November this year. Today’s total number of deaths has been adjusted to reflect this reclassification.

Of the total number of deaths in the current outbreak, 80 per cent were not fully vaccinated.

74,252 COVID-19 tests were processed yesterday. The total number of tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 15,199,956.

There are currently more than 33,500 active primary close contacts in isolation in Victoria.

Omicron variant of concern

Victoria is maintaining enhanced quarantine arrangements for overseas arrivals to protect the state from the new Omicron COVID-19 variant of concern until more is known about the strain.

There are currently no known cases of the Omicron variant in Victoria.

The Seychelles is no longer a country of concern.
