Winter dose in state-run centres

ATAGI has recommended a ‘winter’ dose of COVID-19 vaccine to increase protection for certain groups of people at greatest risk of severe illness from COVID-19. These groups are:

  • adults aged 65 years and older
  • residents of aged care or disability care facilities
  • people aged 16 years and older who are severely immunocompromised
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older.

Eligible people can get their winter dose four or more months after receiving their third or fourth COVID-19 vaccination dose.

Winter doses are now available from all state-run vaccination centres. Eligible people can book their winter dose via or by calling the Coronavirus Hotline on 1800 675 398.

Primary care providers such as GPs, pharmacies and Aboriginal health services will administer winter doses from 4 April 2022.
