Works on the Corowa to Mulwala trail are close to completion, following consistent wet weather throughout the winter period.

Federation Council is undertaking the Corowa to Mulwala Trail (CMT) and Foreshore Precincts project, which features the construction of a shared-use trail linking the townships of Corowa and Mulwala. The combined projects provide an opportunity to encourage exploration along the Murray River and integrate towns and villages across the three LGAs, creating a strengthened interface with the Murray River.

The Corowa to Mulwala Trail is part of the Murray River Regional Experiences project which is a joint initiative of Albury City, Berrigan Shire and Federation councils. The project aims to strengthen access to and connection with the Murray River for both residents and visitors. The councils are tasked with projects to improve infrastructure along 60 km of river frontage and have been provided with specific purpose funding to do so.

Federation Council General Manager, Adrian Butler said it was pleasing to see that the trail was close to completion.

“Progress on the trail has been intermittent in the last few weeks due to the inclement weather,” Mr Butler said.

“Over 95% of the trail has been gravelled and is ready for sealing. Work will continue this week and depending on the weather conditions, additional sections of the trail will be sealed. The current work sites are River Street – Corowa to Croppers Road – Corowa, Stuckeys Road area, and from Kyffins Reserve to Owen Bridges Reserve.

Mr Butler said contractors are progressing with the board walk over Lake Mulwala near Drain Lane.

“Piles and headstocks have been installed, with work currently progressing on the installation of girders and decking,” he said.

“It is great to hear the positive comments from the community in respect to the project, and specifically the board walk feature over Lake Mulwala which is sure to be a drawcard.”
