On 8 July 2024, the Northern Territory Police issued a media release and conducted radio interviews on the morning of 9 July, addressing community disorder on Todd Street and the subsequent suspension of two liquor licences in Alice Springs under Section 258 of the Liquor Act 2019 (NT).
Following these communications, SGRO Pty Ltd trading as Bojangles Saloon and Dining Room (‘Bojangles’) contacted the Northern Territory Police, expressing concern that some statements may have been misconstrued as implying improper business practices relating to the responsible service of alcohol.
The decision to suspend the two liquor licences was based on incidents of disorder near the licensed premises on Todd Street.
Northern Territory Police review of CCTV show the primary instigators of the fighting were not Bojangles patrons. The CCTV review did not reveal lapses of Responsible Service of Alcohol practice by Bojangles.
The Northern Territory Police will continue to work with Bojangles as a valued partner of the Central Australian Liquor Accord and we thank them for their continued engagement on important issues concerning public safety in Alice Springs.
