The Southern Grampians Shire Council 2020/21 Annual Report, which outlines major achievements for the last financial year, is out now following last night’s Unscheduled Council Meeting.
After another challenging year navigating not only the COVID pandemic but also significant office flooding, Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Bruach Colliton said the organisation has done a remarkable job in delivering key projects for the region.
“This Report is a testimony to not only the commitment of our staff and Councillors in their ability to still achieve significant projects like the extensive PAC Roof Restoration, the Pedrina Park Irrigation Project, and the development of the King Street Roundabout, it also demonstrates the resilience and involvement of our community in their contribution to our region,” said Cr Colliton.
“The Southern Grampians community were heavily involved in community engagement throughout the year for our Council Plan, Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan and our 2041 Vision and also helped to make our second DISA festival the go-to event for technology and smart agriculture within the South West.
“Council also successfully secured important funding for the region over the last twelve months which will support our key future developments of both the Pedrina Park Inclusive Sporting Hub facility – which is already under construction – as well as the Melville Oval Project and these achievements are celebrated throughout our Annual Report,” said Cr Colliton.
Highlighted in the Report are the financials for the 2020/21 year featuring the delivery of the $11.303 million capital works program, with almost $5 million spent on road rehabilitation, sealing and resheets across the Shire.
The Community Grants program awarded approximately $185,000 to assist in delivering projects across Hamilton and all outer townships. A quick-wins program saw $30,000 allocated to each Southern Grampians township to fund smaller scale community projects to support and build local capacity.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we have managed to achieve over the last financial year. We will continue to work to deliver services and projects in the Southern Grampians to ensure the region remains a well-connected, dynamic regional centre, with a vibrant, healthy and inclusive community,” said Cr Colliton.
“I encourage all residents to read it, be inspired and stay involved in developing our region now and into the future.”
