Council adopts updated Birallee, Kelly Park master plans

Wodonga Council adopted the updated master plans for the Birallee Park and Kelly Park sporting and recreation precincts at its June council meeting.

Several priority projects were implemented including the replacement of the Wodonga Hockey Field, relocation of development plans for the regional cricket facility to Birallee Park and resurfacing works to the netball centre at Kelly Park.

The master plans for Birallee Park and Kelly Park have been significantly affected by the delivery of the priority projects.

As a result, these masterplans required updating to capture these changes.

The master plans include staged indicative costing over the life of the master plans. The intention is to include these works in the forward capital plan once the master plans now they have adopted. This also allows external funding opportunities to be sought to offset council contributions.

Wodonga Hockey Club received a $500,000 promise from the Australian Government for a new pavilion. The club was also successful in the adoption of the 2019-2020 budget to receive a council contribution of $300,000 for the pavilion contingent on the federal funding. The club will contribute $200,000 to the project.

The now includes a central recreation node with seating and viewing points as well as a multiuse ball wall and play space.

The precinct will also include a pump track next to the play node.

The update follows the redevelopment of nine courts and includes the inclusion of a multipurpose synthetic training area next to the cricket nets, relocation of the playground and more formalised pedestrian paths.

It also includes an amended layout of Lawrence St to reflect budgeted upgrade works to the road and bridge that will occur during the 2019-2020 year.

The master plans were developed in consultation with community users, provide a clear direction, and focus for council to implement improvements at the facilities.
