The 2020-2030 Waste Management Strategy was adopted at an Ordinary Meeting of Council last night (24/03).
The Strategy provides a long-term vision and direction for waste services and waste reduction for Council and the wider community.
It outlines future direction goals, focus areas and actions and focuses on Central Goldfields Shire being a low waste community that has equitable and affordable waste services. The plan sets a target for Council to reduce the volume of landfill created in our community each year.
The Strategy provides guidance to Council and the community to respond to the State Government’s changes to better waste separation. It is also flexible to accommodate potential changes from state and federal governments.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the Strategy reflects the thoughts and ideas of our community and stakeholders.
“Through our community consultation sessions and online survey last year we’ve been able to better understand what was important to our community and bring these concepts and ideas together into an action plan for the future under five focus areas.
“We now have a shared vision for waste management in our community and a clear direction for how Council will work with the community to achieve this.”
