Council is again teaming up with the North Queensland Cowboys this weekend, pairing a Townsville Eats event with the team’s NRL Anzac Round clash with the Knights on Saturday, 22 April.
Townsville Eats: Cowboys v Knights Edition will run in Flinders Street Central from 4pm-8pm this Saturday, with the Cowboys taking on Newcastle from 7:35pm at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
Footy fans can enjoy an afternoon of great food, live music and roving entertainment before making the short walk to the city’s state-of-the-art stadium watch the Cowboys in action.
The Cowboys will honour Townsville’s connection to the armed forces as Australia’s largest garrison city by wearing a special commemorative jersey featuring a silhouette of the iconic Lone Bugler, with Council serving as match day sponsor for the NRL Anzac Round fixture.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said Townsville Eats was an inclusive, family-friendly event that people of all ages could enjoy in the lead-up to the Cowboys showdown with the Knights.
“We have enjoyed huge success with our Townsville Eats events in recent years and this event is a perfect way to enjoy our city centre before all the excitement of a Cowboys home game,” Cr Greaney said.
“Townsville Eats: Cowboys v Knights Edition will also have three different stages featuring live music from local acts including the Ben Bennett Duo, The Drumming Circle, Tallum, Tilly Duncan and Sneaky Beats.
“Council is committed to supporting the arts and live sport and this event is a perfect example of that.”
Over the past 12 months Council has delivered over 60 inclusive events for community, including events like the seniors’ lunches, Anzac Day, NAFA, Carols by Candlelight and Townsville Eats, while working to attract a range of additional events for Townsville residents.
