Townsville City Council has endorsed the appointment of Mike Chiodo to the position of Chief Executive Officer – subject to contracts being executed.
As Acting CEO, Mr Chiodo led the city through one of its worst ever natural disasters and played an integral role in Council’s transformation.
Mr Chiodo joined Townville City Council in 2017 as the Director of Infrastructure and Operations before taking on the role of Acting CEO and has overseen the nearly $400 million infrastructure portfolio.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said she was thrilled to appoint Mr Chiodo as CEO of Townsville City Council.
“Mr Chiodo played a crucial leadership role during the city’s flood response,” Cr Hill said.
“He’s also been an integral member of the team which has implemented the transformation of Council – to make the organisation simpler, faster, better.
“There is no doubt that Mr Chiodo is the right person to continue and complete the transformation started by the former CEO, Adele Young.”
Previously, Mr Chiodo was CEO of the Department of Local Government and Community Services in the Northern Territory.
He also held a number of Senior Executive roles in the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Victoria.
Mr Chiodo said he was honoured to have been offered the position and looks forward to leading Council and the city.
“I am honoured to have the chance to lead the city and Council through such a crucial time in its history,” Mr Chiodo said.
“The city has been through some difficult times with the unprecedented monsoon and the rebuild effort will take a significant amount of time, effort and resources.
“Despite the challenges facing the city, there is no doubt Townsville has an incredibly bright future and I am so proud to play a role in setting the city up for future prosperity.”
The decision was made at a Special Full Council meeting today.
