Griffith City Council has given the green light for a new skate park at Yenda.
Councillors voted unanimously in favour of constructing the development during last Tuesday night’s ordinary meeting held via Zoom and live streamed on Facebook.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor John Dal Broi said, it was great news for Yenda.
“I am delighted that the town can now push forward with this project,” Councillor Dal Broi said.
“This is the result of a passionate committee, who worked tirelessly to make this a reality. I congratulate them on a job well done.
“This skate park will provide a facility for residents of all ages to socialise, be active and have fun.”
The proposed Yenda Skate Park will be located within Yenda Memorial Park, on the south eastern side and partly within the adjacent road reserve along with the tennis courts and includes landscaping.
Yenda Public School were successful in securing a grant under the My Community Project Grant Program for the construction of the skate park.
The State Government invited applications from individuals in the community and nominated projects that were then assessed for their eligibility before being put to a public vote.
The projects with the highest votes were then chosen by the State Government to receive funding, with Yenda Skate Park receiving $200,000.
The successful Development Application is subject to a number of conditions, including that Griffith City Council works with the proponent on a Graffiti Action Plan prior to the Construction Certificate being issued and the Skate Park must be closed on ANZAC Day.
