At last night’s meeting Council officially endorsed the Rochester Place Based Plan, marking a significant milestone for the community. Developed in collaboration with the Rochester Place Based Committee and consulting firm Cred Consulting, the plan represents a collective vision for the town’s future.
Mayor Rob Amos said the Rochester Place Based Plan had received overwhelming support from residents, with over 960 individuals actively participating in the consultation process.
“It has been pleasing to see the amount of community involvement through public feedback sessions, surveys, and drop-in sessions in Rochester.”
Councillor for Rochester ward, Cr Paul Jarman shared the Mayor’s sentiments, agreeing that the level of engagement in the development of the plan was an excellent representation across the community.
“Community members have voiced their aspirations for a vibrant local economy, enhanced community connections, environmental resilience, and preservation of the town’s unique identity,” Cr Jarman said.
Key action items within the Rochester PBP address four fundamental themes:
• A progressive Rochy – fostering a vibrant local economy with diverse business and employment opportunities.
• A town for everyone – building community connections, capacity, and wellbeing.
• A sustainable and resilient environment – supporting community and environmental resilience.
• A strong local identity – enhancing and preserving Rochester’s unique attributes.
Rochester Place Based Planning Committee member, Bec Hocking said it was a wonderful achievement for the committee to have the plan endorsed and that they look forward to getting projects off the ground.
“While some may perceive the plan as aspirational, it serves as a roadmap for the future development of Rochester,” stated Ms Hocking.
Mayor Amos thanked everyone involved for the time and effort they put in to the development of the Place Based Plan.
“Council extends its gratitude to the Rochester Place Based Committee, consulting partners, and all residents who contributed to the development of this plan.
“We are committed to working collaboratively with the community to help them secure funding and implement the identified actions,” said Mayor Amos.
