Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has started construction on a heavy vehicle decoupling area that will service the Pittsworth Industrial Precinct.
TRC Infrastructure Chair Cr Carol Taylor said the $906,000 project will improve safety and cater for the future growth of the Toowoomba Region’s transport network.
“The construction of a heavy vehicle decoupling area will complement the $9.77 million Pittsworth Industrial Precinct Enabling Project completed by Council earlier this year.
“The heavy vehicle decoupling area will provide operators with a dedicated, purpose-built zone to safely decouple and park their trailers,” Cr Taylor said.
“This facility will enable the use of Type 1 Road Trains and reduce the number of heavy vehicle movements required to transport goods, resulting in productivity improvements for businesses in the area.
“It will also greatly assist in the application to the ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) for route pre-approval for Type 1 Road Trains to use Gap Road from the Gore Highway to the heavy vehicle decoupling area without the need for permits.
“The Australian Government has committed $543,000 to this project under Round Six of the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program with Council funding the difference.
“The project is expected to be completed by late September 2019 (weather permitting).”
