Santa’s stop in Townsville may still be a few months away but Council is calling on local entertainers to audition for this year’s Carols by Candlelight event.
Applications are now open for local singers, from all genres and backgrounds, to audition or submit an application to be a part of this year’s Carols by Candlelight event on Sunday 3 December 2023 at Riverway Oval.
You can choose to audition to perform as a soloist, as part of an ensemble accompanied by the 1RAR Band or sign up for a spot in the choir surrounded by the best performers in Townsville.
Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said Council wanted to showcase the talented people of Townsville and encouraged anyone interested to jump at this chance to help spread the Christmas spirit in front of thousands of people.
“Carols by Candlelight involves an enormous amount of coordination and planning, so we have to start organising for the much-loved family event now,” Cr Greaney said.
“This wonderful, family-friendly and inclusive event gives local performers of all ages the unique opportunity to work with a professional band, superb choir and dancers.
“It’s also a chance for locals to showcase their talents and perform in front of a massive audience, including their friends and family.
“We have a very talented and thriving arts and cultural scene in Townsville, and we anticipate some outstanding young performers to nominate for this year’s event.
“Last year, we had dozens of local singers, dancers and performers involved and the Riverway precinct was absolutely packed with families, and people from all walks of life for what has become one of the most beloved and well-attended events on Council’s calendar each year.”
Experienced ensembles such as vocal duos, trios and music groups are also encouraged to audition, with applications for performers for the main show closing at midnight on Wednesday 6 September 2023.
Applications for pre-show and choir performers close at midnight on Sunday 1 October 2023.
