Liverpool City Council is calling on residents in the Liverpool Local Government Area to have their say on what improvements they would like delivered under the NSW Government WestInvest program.
Announced by the NSW Government on 24 February 2022, the new $5 billion WestInvest program aims to build new and improved facilities and local infrastructure that will deliver immediate community benefits across the following six areas:
- Parks, urban spaces and green space;
- Enhancing community infrastructure such as local sporting grounds;
- Modernising local schools;
- Creating and enhancing arts and cultural facilities;
- Revitalising high streets; and
- Clearing local traffic.
Of the $5 billion program, a total of $2 billion will be reserved for high-priority community projects with an initial $400 million directly allocated to 15 Western Sydney Local Government Areas, including Liverpool, to advance shovel-ready local projects.
Mayor of Liverpool Ned Mannoun announced that Council will be advocating hard for the City of Liverpool to have a place at the table over the coming months.
“The WestInvest program offers an unprecedented opportunity to address long-standing liveability issues and transform the face of Liverpool.
“We’ll be seizing this opportunity with both hands to ensure appropriate funding is allocated to the transformational projects the City of Liverpool, as Sydney’s third CBD, needs,” Mayor Mannoun said.
Over the next two weeks, Council is facilitating a grassroots consultation on the WestInvest program, inviting residents to tell them what would deliver the biggest improvements to their lifestyle.
“We want the voices of our residents to be heard as we embark on this important period within Council.
“Having this community feedback will ensure any funding we apply for is directly injected into the projects our residents want and need,” Mayor Mannoun said
Residents are encouraged to submit their feedback by Thursday 14 April 2022 via Council’s Liverpool Listens page:
