The Shoalhaven Animal Shelter celebrates its first birthday as a Council managed facility and Mayor Amanda Findley said the success of the business is made possible by the wonderful community support and the efforts of staff at the shelter.
“I am so proud of the staff at the Animal Shelter and how the community has supported the shelter throughout the first year,” Clr Findley said.
“In the first 12 months, the euthanasia rate of healthy animals has been zero which is an amazing achievement. This result is only made possible due to residents of the Shoalhaven having such big hearts when it comes to adopting new pets, they consider looking at the shelter first, giving these animals a great second chance.
“Since last year, more than 30 volunteers have helped with the day to day operations of the facility. These wonderful people have assisted staff in taking animals for walks and just lending a helping hand to the qualified staff at the shelter.
“In 12 months the shelter has found new forever homes for 598 animals. This includes dogs, cats, roosters, sheep, a goat, a horse and a bird.”
“With Council taking over the management of the Animal Shelter, I am proud that it has improved the quality of responsible pet ownership in the Shoalhaven. The close working relationship between rangers and the animal shelter has improved the overall quality of care for Shoalhaven pet owners.”
