Families can now make their own delicious and healthy meals together thanks to a tailor-made cookbook developed by Fairfield City Best Start Education & Care; a not-for-profit Council operated provider with more than 15 services.
The service whipped up the book full of recipes for families to enjoy after cooking up a storm during the COVID-19 lockdown, where more than 35,000 meals were dished up for members of the community facing hardship.
During lockdown, 11 of Fairfield City Best Start early learning services prepared a range of culturally diverse, allergy-friendly and nutritious meals for delivery to community members in need, and the recipes are now being shared with the community for everyone to enjoy.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said cooking meals for those in need was one of the many ways that Council staff stepped up to support the community during lockdown.
“It is great to see Fairfield City Best Start Education & Care’s support for the community has continued in the wake of lockdown,” Mayor Carbone said.
“Fairfield City is about creating healthy, connected communities and we want to make sure that our families always have access to free or affordable opportunities to lead active, healthy lifestyles.”
Representatives of Fairfield City Best Start Education & Care launched the cookbook at the 2023 Inspire Conference in Sydney last month as part of a discussion about overcoming the challenges they experienced during the 2021 COVID-19 lockdown.
The team was invited to present at the conference; retelling their experiences and efforts to support and maintain connection with the community. They were chosen from more than 100 applicants to speak at the conference.
