Council extends thanks to Australia Day volunteers

Swan Hill Rural City Council wishes to acknowledge the Swan Hill Australia Day volunteer committee for their contributions, for more than 40 years.

Acting Mayor, Cr Bill Moar said that Swan Hill’s Australia Day volunteer committee has worked tirelessly to prepare Australia Day celebratory events, each year – a task that involves planning many months in advance.

“Members of the Swan Hill Australia Day Committee have, over many years, provided a wonderful event for the community,” Cr Moar said.

Cr Moar said prior to the COVID Pandemic, the Committee had advised Council they may be looking to conclude their participation with the Australia Day event, following their significant milestone celebrating the event’s fortieth anniversary in 2020.

At a recent committee meeting, members reluctantly agreed to advise Council they would not be involved in the organisation of the 2023 Australia Day Event in Swan Hill, or any future event.

“Whilst the Committee Members may not actively be involved in the planning of Australia Day events in Swan Hill, it is hoped that they will continue to support future activities,” Cr Moar said.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers, some of whom have themselves personally been contributing for over forty years.

“The committee has brought together many volunteer groups and provided a very special occasion each year, leaving a lasting legacy,” Cr Moar said.

Council will be hosting a Mayoral Reception to acknowledge members of the former Swan Hill Australia Day Committee and to thank them for their years of dedicated service to the community.

An Expression of Interest process will now commence to identify organisations willing to partner with Council in the staging of the 2023 Swan Hill Australia Day Event based on a format to be determined by Council.
