Edward River Council is delighted to announce that it will enter into a new membership agreement from 2024 with Murray Regional Tourism (MRT), building on the positive outcomes of the current membership agreement.
MRT is the peak cross border tourism entity for the Murray region and works to unite the Murray region’s tourism industry, ensuring memorable and complementary visitor experiences throughout the region – stretching from Mildura and Wentworth in the north-west to Albury and Towong in the south-east.
MRTs mission is to strengthen the region’s visitor economy by building tourism product, industry resilience, developing quality and inspirational visitor experiences and promoting the region in partnership with both the public and private sector.
Membership of Murray Regional Tourism brings many benefits to the Edward River region and is a valued support for local tourism operators. Membership also ensures that tourism efforts are coordinated with neighbouring Councils who can learn and benefit from each other, rather than compete for tourism dollars.
Mayor of Edward River Council, Cr Peta Betts is enthusiastic about the continued strengthening of the region’s tourism initiatives, in part a result of membership to MRT.
“We have such potential for tourism growth here in Edward River; with sustained support, promotion, collaboration and access to funding opportunities in partnership with entities such as MRT, we can work to deliver better economic returns and jobs for our community.” said Cr Betts.
Edward River Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Phil Stone, has also been recently appointed to the MRT Board as the Riverina & Murray Joint Organisation (RAMJO) representative for the NSW side of the cross-border group.
The new agreement with MRT will extend from 2024-2027. Council is currently a member of MRT since 2017.
