Young performers will be vying for a chance to perform at the North Australian Festival of Arts, when they take to the stage on Saturday at James Cook University.
Solo performers, duos and band members aged between 12 and 25 can participate in the music competition in the lead up to Youth Week.
The Townsville City Council competition will also continue next Saturday night at Calvary Christian College.
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said it is a great opportunity for aspiring performers.
“Young singers have a chance to win a $300 paid performance – and join the line-up at the inaugural North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA),” Cr Doyle said.
“The paid appearance will be at the Townsville Unlimited Event next month but time on the stage at NAFA would be a dream come true for competitors.”
The second and third-placed performers will also be paid to perform at the Townsville Unlimited Event on 13 April.
Cr Doyle said the competition has attracted a strong line-up.
“This is being marketed via schools, music schools and social media so we’re hoping we can unearth some future stars,” Cr Doyle said.
“Performers spend years honing their skills and this a great opportunity to showcase their talent and push for a place at a major Festival.”
Voting will open at 6.00pm on 23 March and close at 6.00pm on 6 April.
