The Hamilton Pastoral Museum has received a $2,500 community grant from Southern Grampians Shire Council towards the purchase of an event marquee.
The volunteer-run organisation was a successful applicant of council’s 2023/24 Community Partnership Grants program.
Mayor Councillor David Robertson said 34 successful applicants shared over $178,000 in the first round of funding.
“The Hamilton Pastoral Museum has been a major attraction to our town and region since the 1960s,” said Cr Robertson.
“People come from all over Australia to attend museum open days, to explore the wonderfully preserved historic pastoral machinery, objects and restored items. In fact, a rally last year set a new Australian record for the most Bulldog tractors in one location.
“Council was pleased to support the committee’s application for funds to assist in the purchase of a marquee to improve the visitor experience.”
Hamilton Pastoral Museum Vice President Lyall Grey said the 6m x 3m marquee was used at last weekend’s October rally.
“The marquee provided a colourful entrance to the historic displays and weather protection at the gate,” said Mr Grey.
“And, when our members attend other machinery events, the ‘branded’ marquee will be a great advertisement for the museum – and Hamilton as a destination,” he said.
Southern Grampians Shire Council has contributed more than one million dollars in grants to the community since 2018, highlighting the constant innovation and drive of local not-for-profits.
Applications for round two of 2023/24 funding will open early next year.
