Murrindindi Shire Council is progressing plans for the redevelopment of two sporting and recreation reserves in the Shire.
Both the Kinglake Memorial and Thornton Recreation Reserves are set to undergo improvement works to grounds and facilities, with the aim of creating spaces that meet the needs of those communities in the future.
Council’s Recreation Portfolio Councillor Charlie Bisset said it’s important for communities to have their say during the planning process for these projects.
‘Both the Kinglake Memorial and Thornton Recreation Reserve projects demonstrate that we’re serious about the future of our sporting clubs and recreation spaces. We want to make these reserves places that attract people and that are accessible for groups and individuals with different needs in our community.
‘Council is working with Michael Smith and Associates, a company which specialises in landscape architecture and urban design, to develop the masterplans and we’re seeking input from both communities about what they think these reserves should look like in coming years.
‘Each space is unique to its community, so it’s important for us to understand how people are currently using the space and what facilities they would like to see included in the plans for the future. It’s important that communities get the most out of these spaces when works are complete, so we’re encouraging community members to get involved in the planning process at the outset. While we can’t necessarily make proper use of these facilities given COVID-19 restrictions in place right now, that doesn’t mean we can’t plan ahead for when restrictions ease!
