Shellharbour City Council is encouraging parents and carers to put safety first when dropping children at school.
To help get the message out, Council is launching its inaugural School Fence Banner Program when students return for term one.
The program aims to increase understanding and compliance of traffic facilities surrounding schools. It is a joint initiative with Council’s compliance and regulation staff and road safety and traffic teams.
The program will involve 12 local schools and is funded by Transport for NSW.
Participating schools will receive banner packs and education material to remind parents and carers of safety restrictions.
Safety reminders include information and fines for bus zones, no parking zones, no stopping zones, speeding offences, pedestrian crossings, U-turns, double parking and blocking driveways and footpaths.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾r said the program was a great initiative by Council to improve community safety and compliance.
“This program is about encouraging parents and carers to drop off children at school in a safe way,” Mayor ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾r said.
“Traffic rules and parking restrictions are in place to improve everyone’s safety, particularly school aged children,” Mayor ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾r said.
