Georges River Council is launching “Celebrating Localability”, an event celebrating the resilience and strength of people living with a disability in the area.
Coinciding with the International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) on Sunday 3 December 2023, the event aims to honour those within Georges River living with a disability, who exemplify determination and inspire others.
Georges River Council Mayor Sam Elmir said, “Our community thrives on diversity, strength, and unity. Council is dedicated to fostering a more inclusive society where every individual’s contribution is acknowledged and celebrated.”
Celebrating Localability underscores Council’s commitment to community engagement and supports our ongoing work to advance inclusion through a robust disability and inclusion action plan.
Nominations for ‘Celebrating Localability’ are now open and close on Wednesday 22 November 2023.
Community members are encouraged to nominate their local heroes across both youth and general categories.
A morning tea will be held on Friday 1 December 2023 at Hurstville Library revealing the winners. The occasion serves as a platform not only to celebrate the winners but also to share the compelling stories of all nominees.
