Council’s Bulky Waste Collection moves to a pre-booked service with increased resident entitlements

Wingecarribee Shire

Wingecarribee Shire Council has taken significant steps to improve the waste management services available to residents by endorsing a series of measures aimed at streamlining and enhancing the Bulky Waste Collection Service.

During the Ordinary Council Meeting – 21 February 2024, several key decisions were made to ensure the continued availability and efficiency of bulky waste collection for residents. In summary:

  1. Continuation of Service: The Council has confirmed its commitment to ensuring the availability of the Bulky Waste Collection Service for residents into the future. This service will now be included as a requirement in future contracts to ensure its ongoing provision.
  2. Transition to Pre-Booked Service: Endorsing a significant change to the current bulky waste collection model, the Council has approved the transition from a scheduled service to a pre-booked system. This change aims to improve efficiency and convenience for residents.
  3. Increased Entitlement: Residents will now be entitled to two (2) collections per financial year, with a total cap of 16,800 collections per annum. This annual entitlement provides residents with increased access to the service, ensuring their needs are met effectively.
  4. Entitlement Provision: To receive the bulky waste service residents must be paying the domestic waste charge and receive a kerbside collection service.
  5. New Contract Arrangements: the items collected remains the same including mattresses and that new contract processing arrangements will mean that 50% of the material collected will be diverted from landfill.

The Bulky Waste Collection Service will be available for residents from 1 July 2024.

These measures represent a significant step forward in enhancing waste management services for residents of Wingecarribee Shire Council. We remain committed to improving sustainability and ensuring the efficient management of waste within the community.

Council has also listened to the Community regarding preferred operating hours for the Resource Recovery Centre (RRC), at 177 Berrima Road, Moss Vale. The Administrator has endorsed new hours of operation, effective from 1 April, 2024.
