Council’s Dump For Free Is Back This October

With Spring well and truly in the air, Griffith City Council is pleased to announce the return of Dump for Free Month this October.

Residents can dispose of general domestic waste, including garden debris and mixed recyclables, free of charge from Tuesday 1 October to Thursday 31 October 2024.

Council’s Waste Operations Manager, John Roser, said the Dump for Free Month in March had been a big hit with locals

“We are really happy to have expanded our Dump for Free so that we can provide our community with more opportunities to responsibly dispose of their waste,” Mr Roser said.

“The feedback we received from March was extremely positive. I urge everyone to get busy with Spring cleaning so you can take advantage of this offer.”

Throughout October, each household is entitled to dispose of up to two standard loads, with a maximum of four car tyres per load. It is important to note that commercial or agricultural tyres will not be accepted. A standard load is defined as equivalent to a car and trailer combination or a single car or ute load. It is crucial to adhere to these guidelines for a smooth and efficient disposal process.

Residents are reminded that hazardous materials such as asbestos will not be accepted during the Dump for Free event. Council encourages responsible waste disposal and urges residents to utilise the free Community Recycling Centre (CRC) located at the Tharbogang Waste Management Facility. The CRC serves as a permanent drop-off location for common household problem wastes that cannot be collected through Council kerbside waste and recycling collection services. Accepted items at the CRC include paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, motor oils, other oils, car and household batteries, smoke detectors, and fluorescent globes/tubes.

The Tharbogang Waste Management Centre will be open from 8am to 5pm, seven days a week. Additionally, the Yenda Centre will be open from 1pm to 5pm on Sundays only.
