Escape the heat this summer to a fictional world with Sunshine Coast Council’s summer holiday program at one of eight library branches across the local government area.
This year’s program is designed to let children’s imagination’s run wild and discover all the stories complete with amazing characters, available at your library.
Visit this summer and your child will be able to build their own Story Treehouse, create book art or their favourite characters in our drop-in craft sessions. They can even get really creative and construct In Real Life Minecraft characters and matching scenes.
Participants can learn how to produce stop-go animation. The sessions will unleash the inner film makers using back drops and props to create magnificent stories and characters.
For the digital minds, discover and learn how to use Sphero robots or register for iQube sessions to learn the tech savvy ways and basic fundamentals of electronics and circuitry.
Swap screen time for green time and join in on a very special Storytime at Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden. Then let the little legs run by navigating the ‘Red House, Blue House, Green House, TreeHouse!’ Story Walk.
If you don’t want to be locked into a schedule, just come along every Monday and be entertained with a huge range of activities for the whole family. Or, as the temperatures soar outside, just drop in and enjoy the air conditioning while burying yourself in a good book, magazine or movie.
Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said our libraries had done a great job on their summer holiday program offering something for kids of all ages.
“They can get their hands messy creating book art and imaginary characters, or for those with a passion for electronics, register for an iQube masterclass,” Cr McKay said.
“Our libraries have carefully created a holiday program that’s not only inclusive for all ages but appeals to different interests with fun-filled and free activities.”
Toy Library is also available for children to loan two toys per library membership card each morning and afternoon. There’s also the opportunity to join the Summer Reading Club challenge where you can go in the draw to win great prizes.
“There’s still time to register for the annual Summer Reading Club, it’s as easy as registering online, reading and completing challenges! The more you read the more entries you get to win,” said Cr McKay.
“I hope families enjoy and take advantage of the free activities to keep the kids entertained throughout the holidays.”
Bookings are essential for many of the school holiday sessions. Bookings for the January program can be made on the libraries website from Monday January 6.
