Bowral Memorial Hall is set to be returned to its former glory following the allocation of additional refurbishment funding by the NSW Government.
Council’s Administrator Viv May said the funding would ensure the interior fit-out complemented the external and structural improvements currently taking place on the building originally constructed in 1884.
“Council has already undertaken considerable works to improve Bowral Memorial Hall and its future functionality,” Mr May said. “Today’s announcement is the icing on the cake.”
“This funding will ensure that the same attention to detail that has gone into protecting and improving the exterior of the building will be matched once patrons enter inside.”
The quarter million dollars in NSW Government funding will be specifically used to supply internal infrastructure improvements including the installation of a grand piano, speakers, projectors and sound accessories.
Funding was secured via Round Two of the NSW Government’s Creative Capital Funding Program – Minor Works and Equipment.
Onsite for the announcement Member for Wollondilly Nathaniel Smith said the funding would complete the building’s transformation.
“This funding will help us deliver state-of-the-art improvements and ensure our local audiences and visitors enjoy high quality cultural experiences,” he said.
“I am delighted the NSW Government has made this possible for the Wollondilly electorate.”
NSW Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin said the funding would ensure the restored hall catered to a broad range of local and visiting artists and guests.
“This investment in cultural infrastructure in Wollondilly is recognition of the valuable role arts and culture plays in the community,” he said.
The NSW Government funding joins an existing $2.8 million secured from the Australian Government and $5.62 million committed by Wingecarribee Shire Council.
“I thank both the State Member for Wollondilly and the NSW Minister for the Arts for their continued support and confidence in our Shire,” Mr May added.
“I know the Highlands community will be pleasantly surprised when this wonderful building is re-opened next year.”
