Sutherland Shire Deputy Mayor, Councillor Steve Simpson has thanked staff, local vets and emergency services for their efforts overnight as a fire took hold at the Visy recycling facility at Taren Point.
“I’d like to thank Council staff who worked to ensure each and every one of the animals at our shelter were relocated safely last night, as a nearby fire at Visy Taren Point threatened the facility,” he said.
“I’d also like to thank Engadine, Kirrawee and Sylvania Veterinary Hospitals for housing all of our cats, dogs and rabbits. The shelter will remain closed today with a clean up underway.
“Council’s recycling collection services will go ahead as normal this coming week, but there may be some schedule delays as recycling is delivered to an alternate location.
“As always, the safety of our staff and, in this case our animals, is paramount and I offer my sincere thanks to the emergency services who have been on site at Taren Point keeping everyone safe.”
