Leeton Shire Council is proud to support the NSW Police Force’s “Be a Cop in Your ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾town” initiative, which aims to make it easier for regional residents to join the police force while staying connected to their families, lifestyle, and community.
This initiative offers several significant benefits for those considering a career in the police force, including:
- Highest Paid Police Recruits in Australia: NSW Police recruits receive competitive salaries.
- Flexible Training: The first session (16 weeks) of training is conducted online, allowing applicants to work and study from home.
- Academy Time: Recruits spend half the time at the Academy (16 weeks in Session 2), compared to other jurisdictions.
- Competitive Pay: NSW Police officers are the highest paid in Australia during their first five years of service.
- Supportive Academy Environment: Recruits receive free accommodation and meals at the NSW Police Force Academy.
- Formal Qualifications: NSW is the only policing jurisdiction where applicants earn a formal qualification.
The starting salary for a probationary constable is approximately $80,733.00, plus allowances in the first year, including shift penalties. Additional benefits include further training, study leave, and the opportunity to pursue one of over 100 specialist paths within the force.
Leeton Shire Council Mayor and Portfolio Lead for Police Liaison, Cr Tony Reneker, said the initiative allows locals to return to our Shire upon completion of their training.
“Not only are they able to maintain ties with their friends and family but also benefit from a rewarding career with the NSW Police Force. It’s an excellent opportunity for our residents to serve and protect their own community,” he said.
