The Toowoomba Region could soon grow in size after receiving a formal request for a proposed boundary change.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Finance and Business Strategy Committee Portfolio Lead Cr Kerry Shine said Council had considered the item, giving its support to the proposal.
“There is an area on the border of the Lockyer Valley and Toowoomba Region where a resident owns property across both Regions,” Cr Shine said.
“The property is predominantly located within the TRC area and the resident has informed the State Government of their request to have the entire property within the one local government area.
“As part of the process to make this change, the State Government has asked for feedback from the two impacted local government areas.”
With both the Lockyer Valley Regional Council and Toowoomba Regional Council giving its support for the boundary realignment, the matter will now go back to the Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning for consideration.
The matter will then be referred to the Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning and Minister Assisting the Premier on Olympics Infrastructure for consideration of a referral to the Local Government Change Commission.
