Council takes lead on development of Bomen with land purchase

The long-term growth of the Bomen industrial precinct has taken a significant step forward, with Wagga Wagga City Council purchasing a 251-hectare parcel of land between the rail line and the Olympic Highway.

The purchase of the land will align Council and the NSW Government’s strategies to create one of the state’s most attractive precincts for industrial investment, which will drive economic development and job creation of the Wagga Wagga region.

“The acquisition of this land is a pivotal step in the development of the RiFL Hub and ongoing growth of Bomen Business Park, giving Wagga Wagga the ability to drive economic development in the region for years to come,” Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Greg Conkey OAM said.

“The land is in a prime location within Bomen and will assist in attracting further public and private investment to Wagga Wagga, which will have substantial flow-on effects for all services and industries in the region.”

The NSW Government identified Wagga Wagga as a Special Activation Precinct, which means it is a key location for NSW Government investment from the $4.2B Snowy Hydro Legacy fund.

Super-fast digital connectivity, enabling infrastructure like water, sewer and roads and fast-tracked planning approvals are just three of the benefits being supported by NSW Government investment.

General Manager Peter Thompson said the purchase of the land by Council supports the significant investment made by the NSW Government and the Federal Government throughout Bomen.

“Council has secured some of the most strategic employment-generating land in NSW,” Mr Thompson said. “We have taken the lead on the future growth of the city and can set out how this land is developed to benefit the region and Wagga Wagga.

“As we work towards a city of 100,000 people, the Bomen industrial precinct will drive growth and lead the way on achieving the community’s vision for Wagga Wagga – more housing options, better transport routes, a wide range of entertainment options and the creation of more jobs and better jobs.”
