Next week Rockhampton Regional Council will be launching a Systematic Animal Inspection Program across all properties within the Rockhampton Local Government Area.

Planning and Regulation Councillor Grant Mathers said the program is designed to make sure that animals in our community are being kept responsibly.

“This program allows Council to ensure that animal owners are following all relevant Local Laws, which are intended to protect the welfare of animals, enable us to reunite lost animals with their owners, and minimise the risk to community safety,” Cr Mathers said.

“Inspection programs also give Council Officers the opportunity to interact directly with members of the community and discuss any concerns.

“Through the Systematic Inspection Program, Council Officers will be inspecting properties between the hours 7:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Sunday.

“Officers will be inspecting any properties within the Local Government Area where a previously registered dog has not had their registration renewed.

“The program will commence on 3 October and will run for ten weeks, closing on 9 December.

“Residents are reminded that dog registration renewal notices were issued late July and were due on 31 August.

“Council sends out your renewal notices via email or mail depending on your preference, so if you haven’t seen your renewal or just need to pay your registration, please call Council on 4932 9000 or jump on our website and pay online.”

Officers will ensure compliance with the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008, Rockhampton Regional Council Local Law 1 (Administration) 2011 and Rockhampton Regional Council Local Law 2 (Animal Management) 2011 in relation to the keeping of dogs.

A copy of the program may be purchased for $2 at the public offices of Rockhampton Regional Council throughout the duration of the inspections.
