Council Waste Update

Residents located in the black evacuation zone will now be able to dump a load of general disaster waste at Council’s Stuart Transfer Station for free off the back of the recent weather event.

The free waste disposal will be available to only those who reside in the black zone to assist residents in the clean up after the recent weather event.

Those residents can take their ute, car or trailer load to the Stuart Transfer Stations from tomorrow, 6 February until Thursday 13 February.

Proof of address will be required. (Picture ID such as a driver’s license with a power/internet/gas bill, rates notice)

Black zone suburbs include Cluden, Hermit Park, Idalia, Oonoonba, Railway Estate and Rosslea.

For those hard hit in the northern suburbs of the Local Government Area, the Toomulla and Bluewater waste sites will be temporarily reopened for locals affected by the severe weather event to dump general disaster waste for free.

The Toomulla waste site will be open from tomorrow February 6 through to Tuesday 11 February.

The Bluewater waste site will be open from Saturday 8 February through to Tuesday 11 February.

Council reminds the community to not create safety hazards by leaving green waste on the kerb and that there would not be a dedicated Council green waste collection.

Council offers free green waste disposal at its waste facilities year-round.

The Magnetic Island Transfer Station will have extended opening hours this week and be open every day until Monday 10 February.

Council reminded residents not to throw batteries in the bin and to dispose of them properly, check out B-cycle’s website or Council’s website for locations around Townsville to drop your used batteries for free.

Residents needing assistance with large fallen trees on their property should contact the SES on 13 25 00.
