This afternoon Swan Hill Rural City Council welcomed 14 residents as new Australian citizens, commemorating the 75th anniversary of Australian citizenship.

Council’s Mayor, Cr Stuart King said the ceremony was held as part of the national Harmony Week celebrations and highlighted the rich tapestry of diversity within our region.

“Today’s ceremony not only celebrated the journey of these 14 individuals to becoming citizens but also reaffirmed our commitment to embracing diversity and fostering inclusivity within our community.

“I extend my thanks to our local Fijian entertainment group who joined us today and sang the Bula song,” Cr King said.

Cr said the decision by Council to hold this citizenship ceremony during Harmony Week was to highlight the significance of local multiculturalism and its value to our region.

“Throughout this week and beyond, let us come together to celebrate the many cultures, traditions, and perspectives that enrich our community.

Cr King extended a heartfelt welcome to all of the new citizens.

“I welcome our new citizens and I sincerely thank them for choosing to call our municipality home.

“Citizenship ceremonies not only marks the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of these 14 individuals but also signifies the enduring spirit of inclusivity and belonging that defines our wonderful municipality,” Cr King said.
