Former Mayor Councillor Bill Saravinovski was elected as Bayside’s new Mayor at an Extraordinary Council Meeting on Wednesday, 20 September 2023.
Councillor Bill Saravinovski will hold the position until the local government area elections in September 2024. Councillor Joe Awada was elected as Deputy Mayor.
“It is an honour and privilege to serve as the Mayor of Bayside Council once again and I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for the support I have received. I give my undertaking to serve our Council, our residents, and the Bayside community to the best of my abilities,” Mayor Saravinovski said.
“My priority is to maintain the momentum of the past two years and to strongly continue our program of works and I am particularly looking forward to seeing further progress on improving the customer experience, Barton Park upgrade, and Botany Aquatic Centre.
“I would also like to thank outgoing Mayor, Dr Christina Curry, and Deputy Mayor, Scott Morrissey, for the incredible job they have done over the last two years building a stronger more resilient Bayside,” Mayor Saravinovski said.
Outgoing Mayor Dr Christina Curry, congratulated Mayor Saravinovski and Deputy Mayor Awada and thanked the council and the community for their support during her time as Mayor.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the Bayside community” she said.
“We live in such a wonderful area and I have immensely enjoyed my time in the mayoral role. It has been my absolute pleasure to represent and work for the people of Bayside.
“I am extremely proud of the work my fellow councillors, the council staff, and the community have achieved and thank you all for the support I have received.
“I look forward to working with Mayor Saravinovski and Deputy Mayor Awada as we continue to work together to keep on improving all that we do with the aim of making life better for everyone in our Bayside community.” she said.

Bayside Council’s Mayor is elected by the Councillors of the area and would normally hold office for two years in accordance with relevant legislation.
Due to the postponement of the ordinary council elections to 4 December 2021, the Mayor elected at the Extraordinary Council meeting of 5 January 2022 had a shorter term than usual.
That Mayoral term ended in September 2023, when Council is required under the Act to hold mid-term mayoral elections.
The current Mayoral term will be to September 2024 when the next local government election takes place.
