At the April Ordinary Council Meeting in Jindabyne councillors voted to adopt a new Development Servicing Plan (DSP) for the Snowy Monaro.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council’s existing DSPs were outdated and no longer fit for purpose, having been put together before the merger of the three former Councils and the release of the most recent updates to the NSW Government guidelines.
The new DSP ensures that development in our region is financially sustainable and that infrastructure costs for new developments are fairly funded.
Council consulted with the public on the draft plan, incorporating community feedback into the final DSP before it was presented to councillors.
DSPs charge developers up front for the additional demand on local water supply and sewerage services created when land is developed or redeveloped.
These charges cover the cost of building out new and upgraded infrastructure to service developments, as well as the costs of providing water and wastewater services.
Without recovering these costs from developers through a DSP, annual fees and charges paid by residents would increase.
