Country Paradise Parklands upgrade in full swing

Residents of Nerang will have a world-class adventure playground and half a hectare of picturesque picnic areas on their doorstep as part of a $2.8 million upgrade to Country Paradise Parklands.

Works to construct the new playground and surrounding parklands are reaching the halfway mark, and upon completion will cater to the recreational needs of the growing population of Nerang and beyond.

Mayor Tom Tate said the project was a welcome cash injection in the north-western corridor.

“Residents of Nerang and surrounds can rejoice with works well underway to transform part of Country Paradise Parklands into an exciting space for children of all ages and abilities to play, learn and explore,” he said.

“This project is about supporting the green behind the gold. The population of Nerang is set to double over the next 20 years, so it is important we have infrastructure in place to help meet current and future demand for recreational facilities like this.

“The adventure playground has been designed to incorporate elements of the site’s history and features an 11.5 metre windmill structure with an adjoining slide, a water tank tunnel, and a creek bed with water-play features.

“We are also upgrading half a hectare of surrounding parklands into picnic areas with barbeque facilities.”

Upgrades will be made to the existing bathroom facilities, footpaths, and car parking – which will double to over 100 spaces.

The City is investing $10.2 million in upgrading and developing playgrounds in various Gold Coast parks over the next year.

Country Paradise Parklands covers 12 hectares with sprawling grounds that feature stables and a large paddock for the Healing Hooves program, a community garden, a large hall, a workshop for the local Men’s Shed and a large oval for events.

Works to construct the new adventure playground and upgrade to surrounding parklands commenced in May 2020 and are expected to be completed in November 2020.
