Victoria is reporting between 100 and 200 COVID-19 cases each day after several weeks of Stage 4 restrictions in metropolitan Melbourne
Victoria’s daily COVID-19 case numbers have stabilised, with the state reporting 116 cases on August 24, 148 cases on August 25, and 149 new daily cases on August 26.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is urging residents in the state to get tested if they have symptoms, citing falling testing numbers as a major concern.
A payment of AUD $450 is now available to Victorian workers who will lose out financially by having to isolate after being tested for COVID-19. Victoria has also outlined a permit system which is now in place for essential workers.
Stage 4 restrictions were introduced for metropolitan Melbourne on Sunday, August 2. Residents are allowed only one hour of outdoor exercise per day, with supermarket trips limited to one member of each household per day. There is also an 8:00pm – 5:00am curfew in place.
A host of businesses have also closed because of the pandemic, although supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations and banks remain open.
Regional Victoria remains under Stage 3 restrictions, and face coverings are now mandatory. Residents in regional Victoria can now only leave home to work or study; to exercise; to shop for essentials; and to receive or give care.
