Northern Territory Police, Environmental Health officers and Australian Defence Force continue to undertake quarantine compliance checks to ensure people are completing their 14 days quarantine.
Assistant Commissioner Michael Hebb said Territorians should be proud of their efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.
“I would like to praise Territorians for continuing to do the right thing during this difficult time.”
“Whilst there are a small minority of people who have not followed the rules, and have been issued with infringement notices, the vast majority of the community have complied with the Chief Health Officer directions that have been implemented to protect Territorians.”
“I do ask that the public remain patient during this time and continue to abide by the Chief Health Officer directions. Whilst the Territory is in a good position at the moment, we all need to be vigilant to reduce risk of further spread. Compliance checks will be maintained, and where required the police will enforce the law under the directions of the Chief Health Officer.”
6,238 compliance checks have now been completed and 42 fines issued.
A 50-year-old man has been issued with an infringement notice after lying to police regarding the whereabouts of a 28-year-old female who was quarantining at his residence.
The woman was cautioned and the man was issued with an infringement penalty of $1,099.
