COVID-19 – Infringement Notices 7 July

Northern Territory Police have issued a further four quarantine infringement notices yesterday.

A 21-year-old woman from Alice Springs and two women from Darwin, aged 21 and 27, were all found to be absent from their place of quarantine during compliance checks.

They were unable to provide a lawful justification as to why they were not quarantining and each was issued a fine.

Police received information that a 27-year-old man who was meant to be quarantining was attending a nightclub in Darwin. Police contacted the man and he admitted to breaching his quarantine and was issued a fine.

The infringement penalty for failing to abide by the Chief Health Officer Directions issued under section 56 of the Public and Environmental Health Act 2011 is $1,106 for an individual and $5,530 for a business.

NT Police and Environmental Health Officers continue to undertake compliance activities.

23,200 compliance checks have now been completed and 121 fines issued.
