Following the release of the Public Health Order this morning, Council is pleased to advise our community that restrictions are starting to be eased in the face of COVID-19.
We currently have no active COVID-19 cases in our region and commend everyone on their adherence to the current guidelines including social distancing. Council staff are working today to ensure that access is open to facilities that are now able to be utilised.
How do the changes affect you from today across the Snowy Monaro region?
Parks and Playgrounds
Our playgrounds and skate parks in the region are open from today. In accordance with state guidelines, please use outdoor equipment with caution and ensure social distancing is in place.
In park areas, outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people maximum are now allowed including picnics.
Outdoor Exercise – gyms and pools
Outdoor gyms in parks at Bombala, Cooma and Jindabyne are now open.
Swimming pools – new restrictions only apply to outdoor pools and our pools are already closed for winter. We await new guidelines on indoor swimming pools, applicable to Jindabyne, so it remains closed for now.
Funerals and Weddings
Outdoor funerals in Council run cemeteries. Group size increased to 30 people maximum (excluding the funeral celebrant or minister of religion).
Weddings held outdoors can now have 10 people (excluding the persons being married, those conducting the service and one photographer or one videographer or both)
Council will advise the community when our Customer Service desks at each of Council’s offices in Cooma, Bombala, Berridale and Jindabyne will again be open to the public and what has been put in place to protect our staff and visiting community members including social distancing signage, protective counter screens and sanitisation. Updates will be provided on libraries, visitor centres and the Youth Hub as restrictions change.
Please note, as outlined in the Public Health Order, people are not permitted to take a holiday in a regional area. We do look forward to welcoming visitors to our region when intrastate (ie. within NSW) travel is allowed again, ahead of interstate travel. Visitors’ spending will support our communities that have suffered not only from COVID-19 travel restrictions but ongoing impacts of bushfires since December 2019.
