CPSU delegates from the Department of Home Affairs have met with Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, Andrew Giles in Canberra.
Joined by CPSU Deputy National President Brooke Muscat, the delegates seized the opportunity of such direct access to the Minister and ensured he was well briefed on the issues affecting CPSU members in Home Affairs.
Delegates spoke in depth about workloads and understaffing issues felt right across the Department, with a particular focus on ICT capability and shortages in the District Offices.
Minister Giles was already across many of the issues that are impacting workers, and expressed his enthusiasm for working with CPSU delegates more closely over the coming years.
Delegates spoke at length about some of the cultural issues that are so prevalent in the Department of Home Affairs, and Minister Giles acknowledged the importance of continuing to visit workplaces to try and affect this positive cultural shift.
