It’s officially autumn. This summer was way too short! I must say, we’ve had some days when we heald breaths. We are thinking about the people in other shires who lost properties and possessions, with the recent fires close to us.
The next four weeks to the end of this month is going to be busy with all kinds of activities and events happening, as footy and netball gets underway.
In Carisbrook it’s an action-packed weekend. The Castlemaine-Maryborough Rail Trail Inc is organising a walk from Maryborough station to Carisbrook station along the railway line on Sunday, 24 March. Once the participants arrive at Carisbrook, they will be received by members of the Carisbrook Historical Society and be given brochures hot off the press, describing the local history of Carisbrook, the Moolort Plains, Majorca and Craigie. Then there will be a short, guided walk past the Log Jail to Market Reserve, where the Lions Club will be waiting with a sausage sizzle.
April also marks the 150th anniversary of the railway station in Carisbrook. To mark this historical event, a 20-page visitor guide will be officially launched at the Visitor Centre at the historic Maryborough station.
The Terms of Reference for the Advisory Group for the Waterway Management Plan was adopted by Council at the February Ordinary Council meeting. Expressions of interest will be called for in April and I encourage anyone with an interest in the Plan to please put your hand up.
I am also very excited about the International Women’s Day that we are organizing for Friday, 8 March. It is going to be a terrific event with amazing speakers as well as visiting guests. Thank you to the Carisbrook Historical Society for your support with this endeavor.
Monday, 25 March there is a ‘Pitch Night’ at the Hub in Maryborough, at 6.30pm. Grant writers from all volunteer and community groups are invited to attend. There will be a panel where you can present your idea for a grant. The panel will then assist and advise, ensuring your grant application’s best chance for success.
Tuesday, 26 March will be the first of our regular Carisbrook Community Conversations for this year. It will be held at 7pm in the Fire Station in Green Street, Carisbrook.
